From the recording My Savior, My Lord, My King

I like to think that life is accompanied by its own soundtrack, just as a movie is. Music adds so much, and in conjunction with the picture and words, one is overwhelmed sometime with emotion & spirit. 16 years ago I arranged Joseph Smith's First Prayer for voice/piano as if it was playing as we witnessed Joseph Smith going into a grove of trees in 1820 to pray, receiving a glorious vision of the Father and the Son, ushering in a restoration of truths and power that had been lost from the earth hundreds of years before. You can hear strains of hymns that are associated with the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the prophet Joseph Smith as this arrangement opens, and they are interspersed throughout.  This is a piano adaptation of what was originally a vocal solo, which you can hear a rough draft of on my Soundcloud page.  Joseph Smith and his mission truly testify of Jesus Christ.  Without him, our knowledge of the Lord's plan, atonement, and power would be incomplete.  Let's thank him for the prophet Joseph Smith, through whom He brought back to the earth His truth, His witness, and His power!

Lyrics

O how lovely was the morning!
Radiant beamed the sun above.
Bees were humming, sweet birds singing,
Music ringing through the grove.
When within the shady woodland,
Joseph sought the god of love.
When within the shady woodland,
Joseph sought the god of love.

Humbly kneeling, sweet appealing,
'Twas the boy's first uttered prayer,
When the pow'rs of sin assailing
Filled his soul with deep despair.
But undaunted still he trusted
In his Heav'nly Father's care,
But undaunted still he trusted
In his Heav'nly Father's care.

Suddenly a light descended,
Brighter far than noonday sun,
And a shining, glorious pillar
O'er him fell, around him shone.
While appeared two heav'nly beings,
God the Father and the Son,
While appeared two heav'nly beings,
God the Father and the Son.

"Joseph, this is my Beloved; Hear Him!"
Oh, how sweet the word.
Joseph's humble prayer was answered,
And he listened to the Lord.
Oh, what rapture filled his bosom
For he saw the living God!
Oh, what rapture filled his bosom
For he saw the living God!

Oh, how lovely was the morning,
For he saw the living God!
